The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within Montana State Hospital.

The Wastewater Plant Operator operates and maintains equipment used to treat and process wastewater, ensures compliance with environmental regulations, and monitors the treatment process to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the plant. The position will introduce cleaning and treatment substances into plant systems, perform collection and testing of water and sewage samples, and record and track operational data.

Required for the first day of work:
•    Strong working knowledge of wastewater treatment concepts and treatment processes.
•    Working knowledge of sludge management practices.
•    Working knowledge of water quality standards and compliance procedures.
•    Strong working knowledge of law and regulations governing wastewater operations.
•    Must be proficient in the use of hand and power tools (air and electric).
•    Must be proficient in the use of auxiliary equipment.
•    Skilled in the use of various types of lab equipment, test equipment, analyzers, and basic machinery repair techniques.
•    Ability to operate a personal computer to complete essential functions including word processing, internet, email and other applications.  

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):

•    High school diploma or equivalent.
•    Must possess a valid driver’s license.
•    Must be certified in Montana as a Class 3C Wastewater System Operator.
      o    Or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
•    Must be certified in Montana as a Class 3A Water Treatment Systems Operator.
      o    Or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
