The State of Montana Department of Military Affairs Disaster and Emergency Services is seeking a financial employee with strong accounting skills who has exceptional multitasking abilities and strong attention to detail.

Duties:
This position provides professional-level analysis of financial information and prepares professional-level financial reports to determine or maintain a record of assets, liabilities, and other financial activities within the division. The position primarily supports the disaster recovery program, ensuring accuracy of service for communities impacted by natural disasters.
- Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting and budget-related statements, reports, and supporting documents.
- Classify, record, and report financial operations by applying the theories and principles of accounting.
- Identify, research, and resolve accounting discrepancies.
- Analyze, allocate, and monitor expenditures and revenues.
- Assist with the development of accounting procedures.
- Maintain accounting ledgers, journals, registers.
- Reconcile statements with records and accounting transactions.
- May provide direction or guidance to technical and/or support staff.
- Responsible for accounting functions for multiple funding types.
- Oversee two or more major accounting and reporting functions.
- Analyze accounting data to assess and improve the agency’s financial operations.
- Process payments in the state accounting system
- Order office supplies and performs light administrative duties

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- Two (2) years of accounting experience
Preferred:
- Experience in governmental accounting
Minimum Physical/Mental Requirements:
- May need to work at a computer daily for 8 or more hours
- Fluctuation in workload may require more than a 40-hour workweek
Typical Work Environment:
- Normal office environment, located at Fort Harrison, MT
- Must be able to work physically on-site in the office 60-100% of the time
- Telework eligible up to 40% based on business need
