Function: Under the direction of the Facilities Supervisor, this position is responsible for the security of the museum's collections and its building. The ability to exercise some discretion, ingenuity, and independent judgment with a welcoming and friendly attitude is important to this position.
Other: Security guards work a standard 40-hour a week flexible schedule. Upon opening of the new Montana Heritage Center in Fall 2025, the work schedule will be flexible to include weekend hours and some evening hours.

- Responsible for safeguarding the museum’s artifacts and the area where they are on display.
- Provide museum visitors accurate information pertaining to the MTHS facility with a professional and courteous attitude in person and on the phone. As team members who engage with the public, security personnel are expected to contribute to the welcoming and accommodating atmosphere the museum fosters to its guests.
- Ensure guests follow safety guidelines required for the protection of the art, museum building, and for staff and visitors.
- Under the direction of Facilities Supervisor, aid MTHS staff members as needed on occasions that may affect the museum’s collection or facility.
- Possess a team-oriented attitude and enjoy working with museum staff and visitors on a daily occurrence.
- Conduct physical inspections of grounds and buildings before opening hours.
- Activate and monitor alarm systems.
- Investigate accidents and document specific complaints for safety hazards.
- Have knowledge of two-way radio usage and proper radio etiquette.
- Possess the ability to assist as needed with the set up and take down of equipment for museum functions, special events, and other programs within the museum. Under the direction of the Facilities Supervisor, this includes assisting staff periodically with mailings, front desk assistance, deliveries, and moving heavy objects and crates.

- Knowledge of proper use of emergency, communications, and security equipment.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Familiarity with CPR/AED/First Aid (certifications will be provided by MTHS).
- Must have and maintain a current, valid driver’s license.
- Must possess basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office products Word and Excel.
Minimum Physical/Mental Requirements:
- Must be able to climb, crouch, pull, push, reach, stand, engage in repetitive motions including movements of the hands, wrists or fingers, move, touch including finger dexterity, communicate, hear including receiving detailed information orally or making fine discriminations in sound and see including color, depth perception or clarity.
- Must be able to move and stand for several hours at a time.
Qualifications:
· High-school diploma.
· One year of experience in a security-related field.
· Other combination of education and experience may be substituted.
