Special Information:

Identity of applicants who become finalists may be releases to the public if the Department deems it necessary. The incumbent must be able to work with a variety of equipment, be able to work outdoors under adverse weather conditions, be in good physical condition to perform heavy work, and carry heavy loads for long distances. The incumbent must be willing to spend considerable time away from home or duty station. The incumbent will need to travel long distances to properly conduct a thorough work schedule on each MTFWP site.

 

  • Frequently works in adverse outdoor conditions including temperature extremes, snow and rain, dust and mosquito infested areas.
  • Works in confined areas, sometimes for extended periods, including attics, cellars and excavated areas.
  • Works on wastewater and sewage disposal systems with potential for contact with disease, virus and bacteria.
  • Works in areas frequented by rodents with the potential for contact with diseases such as Hantavirus.
  • Works with and applies hazardous chemicals, including various pesticides, solvents, paints, and fuels and may be exposed to welding fumes.
  • Works with the public and may enforce MTFWP rules and regulations.
  • May work on heights, including roofs and scaffolding.
  • May be required to work weekend and holiday hours, including occasional overtime.
  • Must be willing to spend occasional time away from home or duty station.
  • Physical demands include frequent exertion, often for extended periods, including lifting 50 lbs., carrying, digging and pounding.
  • Daily field decisions pertaining to project completion.
  • Using established procedures determines the daily work to completed.
  • Performs a wide variety of maintenance duties. This work includes the use of a variety of tools, chain saws, mowers, tractors, weed trimmers, and maintenance of each piece of equipment.

Job Duties:

Responsible for daily field decisions to determine correct procedures to complete projects. Performs manual, skilled and semi-skilled work. Work may include:

 

  • Constructing and/or repairing property boundary and cross fences, using permanent or electric fences on WMAs to maximize wildlife potential on FWP lands and to minimize trespass livestock.
  • Maintaining roads, culverts, ditches, dikes, parking areas, and bridges by using a variety of heavy and light equipment such as front-end loaders, backhoes, graders, dump trucks and hand tools.
  • Maintaining and repairing heavy and light equipment and machinery, using welding, plasma cutter, drill press, cutting torch, power and hand tools.
  • Maintains latrine facilities at FAS, and State parks.
  • Loading and unloading heavy and light equipment from trailers and pickups
  • Properly securing for transport heavy and light equipment.
  • Repairing and maintaining Department buildings and structures on region 2 sites, including electrical, carpentry, heating and plumbing repairs using a variety of power and hand tools.
  • Performing interior and exterior repairs to maintain a safe environment for the public users and reduce the deterioration of Department facilities. Maintains facilities to Department standards to include paint and cleanliness on existing and new structures.) 

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):

Knowledge of the methods and practices of general maintenance and construction work as related to equipment, buildings, grounds, and related facilities; use and care of tools, fence construction and maintenance, operation of a variety of motorized equipment, which includes farm equipment, industrial equipment, and vehicles. Skilled in the use and repair of general maintenance equipment. Knowledge of correct weed application procedures as demonstrated by being a Certified Weed Applicator. High school diploma or equivalent and 2-3 years of job-related experience.

 

Job is full time seasonal position. 40-hour work weekday shift. Occasional overnight travel will occur to fulfill department training and meeting obligations.
