Division Overview:

The Gambling Control Division’s (GCD) mission is maintaining a uniform regulatory climate that is fair and free of corrupt influences. The division is also responsible for collecting gambling revenue for state and local governments. In addition to gambling regulation, GCD works with the Department of Revenue’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Division to provide licensing, auditing, and investigative services.

Job Overview:

The License Examiner performs a variety of administrative duties related to Montana state gambling control regulations. This position provides paraprofessional services in the administration of the Division’s license and tax section including permit application review and determination, tax collection and compliance functions. The incumbent is responsible for collection and compliance processes; conducting desk audits of tax reports and machine records; conducting and coordinating liquor licensing and gambling operator license application examinations, video gambling machine permit application reviews, special permit reviews and a variety of other program functions, including database updates and changes, license fee collections, and reporting and aiding the division as needed to support regulation of authorized gambling activities.

*The first screening of this position will occur on April 9, 2025.

Minimum Qualifications:

  •  Associates degree in business or related field.
  • Three years of job-related work experience in compliance or licensing, business operations, or program administration.
  • Other combinations of education and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis. 

This position requires:

  • Ability to multitask, organize competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to follow through and meet commitments and agreements in a timely manner.
  • Ability to take a logical approach to problems and identify root causes.
  • Ability to communicate professionally, in written and verbal form.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience in the use of general office software and equipment.
