The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Director’s Office – Office of Human Resources.
This position provides operational Human Resources (HR) support and guidance for focus areas such as compensation and classification, recruitment and onboarding, and employee relations specific to Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and worker compensation (WC) administration. Serves as a backup for other HR services including screening, interviewing, and processing background checks and new hires, drafting job descriptions, reviewing compensation, classifying positions and assisting with employee relations matters. This position contributes to policies, procedures, record keeping, data analysis, process improvements, training communications, and compliance with state and federal laws and regulations and collective bargaining agreements.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity
Skilled in researching and interpreting technical, legal, and/or ambiguous information to summarize and compile information.
Initiative to work in a self-directed and proactive manner while adapting to changes in the work environment, managing completing priorities, and meeting deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication
Ability to work with complex service-related software programs.
Ability to guide, train, and provide excellent customer service.
Ability to remain neutral under adversarial circumstances and demonstrate discretion.
Meet minimum qualifications:
Associate degree in related field such as human resources, business or public administration, psychology, journalism, English or marketing.
Three years of job-related experience working in a professional office environment.
Other combinations of related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Ability to obtain the State of Montana Classification Certification within one year of hire.

Additional Information
This position may be eligible for partial telework within the state of Montana. Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.
This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.00 an hour base pay increase effective July 1, 2026.
