JOB DUTIES:
As a Field License Inspector, you will:
- Visit construction or other occupation job sites to determine if the workers are employees, independent contractors, owners, homeowners, or general contractors.

- Gather information to determine the working relationship between the workers and hiring agent and potential employer liability for all industries.
- Collect, evaluate and analyze data, records and documents about the working relationship, prevailing wage classifications, appropriate pay rates for each classification.
- Perform monitoring, compliance, and customer service tasks to ensure registered entities, contractors, licensee’s and employers are operating within regulatory standards.
- Conduct public speaking engagements and provide training regarding requirements of the programs under the authority of the Employment Standards Division.
- Inspect licensed facilities, assessing relative risk and harm to the public.
- Investigate whether an allegation is a violation of state law.
- Assure due process is given to all entities and licensees inspected.
- Provide information, including testimony as needed in contested cases.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITES:
If you are the right person for this opportunity, you will have the following knowledge, skills or abilities:
Knowledge of (or ability to learn in a reasonable amount of time):
- Statutes, rules, and policies under the authority of the Employment Standards Division.
- Legal and investigative processes and fundamentals as a basis to make clear and concise decisions regarding the validity, scope, and priority level of all cases.
Skill in:
- Conducting interviews and gathering information necessary to determine compliance.
- Persuading others to comply voluntarily with requirements and effectively resolving conflicts with courtesy and respect.
- Must be extremely organized and be able to maintain continuous control of numerous cases with challenging deadlines.
- Demonstrate a high level of service delivery by doing what is necessary to ensure customer requirements are met.
Ability to:
- Communicate effectively and maintaining working relationships with people with diverse backgrounds and levels of understanding.
- Work independently with minimal supervision through planning, organizing and prioritizing work.
- Operate a personal computer and general office equipment as necessary to complete the essential functions, including using spreadsheets, word processing, database, email, internet and other computer programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Your preparation for this opportunity could include a combination of relevant experiences including:
- Relevant degree in business administration, human resources, public administration, or related field.
- Minimum of one year of directly related qualifying experience including work that involves knowledge of employment laws or regulations, investigations, and analysis.
OR
- Five years of experience working directly in compliance/regulation with specific emphasis in analytical and communication skills.
OR
- Any combination of equivalent experience and education to successfully perform the essential functions of the position will be considered.
* Licensed class 3 crane operator with 3 years’ experience is preferred.
