The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Business and Financial Services Division in Helena.
The Cost Accounting Section performs technical accounting services for the department. This section is responsible for timely completion of cost allocation runs, completing necessary cost allocation corrections on an ongoing basis, programming and operating the cost allocation system for the department, establishing and maintaining the complex department accounting structure, and the analysis and review of cost allocation process. This position is responsible for managing the cost allocation unit by developing and maintaining business processes and policies, which contribute to the overall efficiency and financial control of the department. This position is responsible for a high level of statistical data analysis in order to ensure efficient workflow of the cost allocation process.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity
- Extensive knowledge of the procedures, theories, and concepts of governmental accounting.
- Skills in utilizing analytical techniques.
- Ability to clearly and concisely express complicated financial and accounting information to various stakeholders.
- Skill in translation of data, pivot tables, and statistical information.
- Meet minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, data analytics, statistics, or a related field.
- Five or more years of job-related work experience.
- Two years of management experience.
- A combination of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- CPA license is preferred but not required.

Additional Information
This position may be eligible for partial telework within the state of Montana. Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.
This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.00 an hour base pay increase effective July 1, 2025 and July 1, 2026.
This position is open until filled with frequent screening of applicants. The first screening of candidates will take place on June 23, 2025.
