The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Director’s Office.

 

The CFO reports to the Department Director and serves as an integral member of the Executive Leadership Team. The CFO provides the leadership, management, and vision necessary to ensure the Department has the proper operational controls and administrative and reporting procedures and systems in place to ensure that the organization is operating at top financial and operational efficiency. The position is responsible for ensuring operational alignment with the Department’s mission and strategic objectives by developing and implementing fiscal and operational information sharing solutions, budgetary and forecasting models, risk mitigation strategies, external reporting strategies, and business process improvements. The CFO holds the overall responsibility for the agency-wide budget and conducts independent evaluation financial conditions of the Department.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity

 

  • Extensive knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, contractual management, and resource allocation.

  • Extensive knowledge of state procurement laws, processes, and procedures.

  • Extensive knowledge of principles of financial management, budgeting, and analysis.

  • Extensive knowledge of principles of design, development, and application of technological solutions and project portfolio management.

  • Knowledge of personnel management and supervision and skill in leading people and programs with statewide impact.

  • Ability to manage multiple and competing high-profile, sensitive, or controversial issues.

  • Ability to problem-solve through the development and implementation of innovative and unconventional approaches to challenging situation.

  • Ability to proactively identify risk, weigh the pros and cons of scenarios, and take corrective action as needed.

  • Knowledge of state and federal health and human services laws, regulations, and funding streams.

  • Knowledge of project management principles.

  • Meet minimum qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.

    • Eight or more years of senior-level experience managing business systems such as accounting environments and project portfolios

    • Six or more years of senior-level management and supervisory experience required.

    • Other combinations of related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
