About this Opportunity
CSI has an opportunity for a full-time Financial Examiner (Captive Analyst) in the Examinations Bureau in Helena, Montana. This position is responsible for the financial oversight of approximately 1,400 licensed insurers, including approximately 300 captive insurance companies domiciled in Montana. Solvency determination and monitoring is achieved primarily through financial analysis and financial examination conducted in accordance with strict guidelines promulgated by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).
This is an on-site position located in Helena, Montana.
What You’ll Do
Key responsibilities of this position include:
The incumbent will perform duties in support of financial solvency analysis by performing in-depth financial analysis of insurance companies domiciled in Montana. The incumbent will perform risk-focused examinations of insurance companies as an entry level examiner for in-state examinations or multi-state examinations, utilizing knowledge of generally accepted auditing standards and familiarity with the NAIC Examiners Handbook and local procedures. The incumbent will be responsible for providing excellent customer service.

Knowledge of insurance company operations, accounting practices and procedures, examination procedures for insurance companies, analytical tools and practices applicable to insurance company financial statements, accreditation guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and the state insurance regulation framework. The incumbent must have the ability to communicate effectively in writing and the ability to review financial and company data to formulate logical and accurate conclusions, and present reasonable recommended courses of action. They must be able to work with a team, exhibit analytical thinking and commitment to the profession, be reliable and dependable, be accurate and pay attention to detail, work effectively with confidential information, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and show strong independent judgment.

Minimum Qualifications
This position typically requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or a related field and be able to obtain the designation of AFE or ACI. Alternate combinations of relevant education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Preferred Background
Experience with the following:
conducting compliance analysis with state or federal laws
reviewing licensing applications and making recommendations for approval or disapproval to supervisor
analyzing or preparing financial statements (income statements and balance sheets)
conducting desk audits or fields audits, and making written summaries of work performed
preparing spreadsheets and reports to supervisors of work performed
preparing effective written communication to internal and external parties
This position is not a supervisory position. This position is non-exempt under the FLSA.
Special requirements include successful completion of a fingerprint background check and possession of a valid driver's license.
