The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Disability Employment and Transitions Division, Vocational Rehabilitation Services Bureau.

 

Do you love working with people and have a passion for helping those with disabilities? This position provides guidance and counseling to individuals with disabilities in achieving employment outcomes.  Responsibilities include developing individual rehabilitation plans, counseling consumers on job and career development goals, providing on-site job coaching or assistive devices, approving, purchasing, and monitoring the quality of goods and services, and consulting and coaching Workforce partners, community rehabilitation providers, businesses, and other stakeholders on serving individuals with disabilities.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity

 

  • Knowledge of psychosocial assessment, occupational placement, and vocational rehabilitation counseling.
  • Knowledge of medical and psychiatric conditions in relation to the rehabilitation process.
  • Knowledge of counseling theories, techniques, and applications.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and balance between literal adherence to rules and the use of policies as a guide.  Does not look to protect the rule, but rather uses the rules to increase engagement.
  • Meet minimum qualifications:
    • Individuals may be considered for a training assignment if they possess:
      • Bachelor’s degree in a field of study reasonably related to vocational rehabilitation counseling, disability studies, human services, business administration, special education, psychology, or communications, or another field that reasonably prepares individuals to work with consumers and employers.
      • One year of experience in rehabilitation counseling, career counseling, or human services.
    • Fully qualified applicants possess:
      • Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling.
      • Certification by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) is highly preferred.
    • Other combinations of directly related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

This position may be eligible for partial telework within the state of Montana. Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.
