The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Human & Community Services Division.
The Regional Field Manger (RFM) provides strategic and operational leadership for regional Office of Public Assistance (OPA) field offices. This position ensures consistent, equitable, and accurate service delivery across local offices by overseeing regional operations, implementing statewide program expectations, and supporting staff in delivering high-quality customer service for public assistance offices.
The RFM collaborates closely with division leadership, other regional managers, and local management to align office operations with statewide goals, performance metrics, and program accuracy standards. Responsibilities include operational oversight, team leadership, continuous improvement, managing personnel including recruiting, retention, and due diligence processes, and ensuring adherence to federal and state public assistance policies.
This position provides direct supervision to Field Operations Managers (FOM) and provides support to supervisors and frontline teams.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity
Required for the first day of work:
· Thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal laws pertaining to public assistance program requirements.
· Strong understanding of social, economic, and cultural factors impacting families and individuals served by public assistance programs.
· Comprehensive knowledge of public assistance programs, eligibility determinations, and federal/state program requirements including SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, and HMK.
· Skill in analyzing data, identifying trends, and making informed decisions to improve operational effectiveness.
· Knowledge of customer-service principles, supervisory practices, organizational leadership, and personnel management.
· Ability to interpret and apply complex laws, regulations, and policies in a consistent and practical manner.
· Knowledge of program administration, budget, and personnel management.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to coach, train, present information, and facilitate discussions with staff and stakeholders.
· Ability to oversee and monitor compliance with programs and procedures.
· Ability to foster effective collaboration with community partners, leadership, and other stakeholders.
· Ability to model professionalism, manage change, maintain resilience under pressure, and support teams through evolving expectations.
· Ability to achieve program improvements and call handling efficiency through continual review.
· Ability to motivate, mentor, and supervise personnel.
Minimum Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in related field.
· Five years of management and/or training experience in a public assistance office.
· Other combinations of education and public assistance experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Additional Information
This position may be eligible for partial telework within the state of Montana. Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.
This position supports the Human & Community Services Division / REGION 1, which includes the following cities: Browning, Hamilton, Kalispell, Libby, Missoula and Polson. Work locations will vary depending on availability and community needs.
This position is open until filled with frequent screening of applicants. The first screening of candidates will take place on October 16, 2026.
