The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Montana State Hospital.
Montana State Hospital is seeking full-time Psychiatric Technicians (Psych Techs) for evening and night shifts. Psych Techs provide assistance and support to clients in a therapeutic environment. Responsibilities include supervising and accounting for patients’; provide care as directed by medical and nursing providers; observe, report and document information concerning patients’ physical, emotional and behavior status; provide and assist with therapeutic activities and activities of daily living; maintains and protects patients’ rights; recognize and appropriately response using therapeutic communication and de-escalation techniques with patients’.
Employees who have successfully completed training will be places in a specified work shift consisting of five (5) consecutive 8-hour workdays followed by 2 consecutive days off. Additionally, shift differential may be available. This position may be eligible for a hiring bonus up to $7,500.00

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity
- Ability to work with patients that require variations of assistance
- Ability to utilize equipment necessary to perform routine care and procedures
- Knowledge of health practices and methods for providing care
- Ability to make observations and report/record them accurately
- Meet minimum qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- At least 1 year of experience working in a mental health psychiatric setting strongly preferred
- Ability to deal with sensitive and confidential information in compliance with HIPPA policy and procedure

Additional Information
This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.00 an hour base pay increase effective July 1, 2025 and July 1, 2026.
This position is open until filled with frequent screening of applicants.
