Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):
- A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering that meets Accreditation Board of Engineering & Technology (ABET) standards, or another relevant field of engineering such as Environmental or Geological from an ABET accredited program.
- Licensure as a Professional Engineer. Licensure in Montana as a Professional Engineer is required within 6-months of hire.
- A minimum of 2-years of applicable post- professional engineer licensure experience.
- Expertise in a specialty area of civil engineering that is applicable to irrigation systems (e.g. geotechnical, hydrology, hydraulic, structural). This may be either specialized education (e.g. a master’s degree, graduate coursework, or an undergraduate focus in a relevant specialty area of civil engineering), or specialized experience.
The required knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering; specialized training in water project designs, construction methods and materials; and at least two years of experience directly related to water resources design and construction or water project operation and maintenance.
Thorough knowledge of civil engineering fundamentals with specialization in water project structural design and construction, hydraulics, hydrology, soil mechanics, and water resources is required.
- Considerable knowledge of surveying, water measurement, irrigation systems, legal land descriptions, contracts and agreements, design and construction practices, economics, computers, engineering software, and technical writing is desirable.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Must be skilled in the use of computers.
- Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, CAD, GIS, hydraulic analysis programs, water measurements instruments, surveying instruments, and soils and concrete testing equipment is desirable.
Special Information:
- Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States. A valid driver's license is required with less than 12 conviction points in the most recently completed 36 months.
- Applicants must be able to climb embankments, walk on uneven surfaces for up to a mile and crawl through confined spaces such as siphon pipes.
