Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):

  • Master’s degree with emphasis in Orientation and Mobility or other related degree and eligibility to sit for the Certified Orientation and Mobility (COMS) certification.
  • Must meet qualifications for certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist by the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Educational Professionals (ACVREP).
  • Equivalent combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

Applicants with a related bachelor's or master’s degree in a field other than Orientation and Mobility or other related degree as acceptable for ACVREP certification may be considered for a training assignment at the minimum listed salary. Applicants hired under a training assignment are required to perform the duties of the job while completing a master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility or other related degree as acceptable for ACVREP certification. Employees who complete their master's degrees will receive a base pay increase. Employees who choose to take the ACVREP certification exam and pass it, will receive an additional base pay increase.

Employees hired under a training assignment are guided to schools that provide both distance learning and scholarship funds.
