The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting a Maintenance Division Administrator in Helena. This position is responsible for administering the Maintenance Division and Maintenance functions throughout the state. Provides executive analysis, oversight and direction to statewide maintenance activities; represents the agency and Maintenance Division to governmental and legislative bodies, industry organizations, the media, and the public. Responsible for the development, allocation, monitoring, and managing resources of the Maintenance Program. This position reports to the Asset Strategy, Operations & Maintenance Operations Manager and directly manages 5 employees in the Helena office and 10 Maintenance Chiefs throughout the state. This position is also responsible for indirect oversight of approximately 750 Maintenance employees located throughout the state. Required Education and Experience:
The required knowledge and skills are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to Bachelor’s Degree in in Civil Engineering, related engineering field, Business, or a related field.
This position requires a minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in highway construction, preconstruction, materials, or maintenance experience. This position requires a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible supervisory experience.
Combinations of related work experience and education may be considered. Such as 12 years of related experience and 5 years of supervisory.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the concepts and theories of public administration, highway construction, pre-construction, equipment and materials, engineering and the legislative process.
Knowledge of issues regarding the state and their impacts on maintenance operations.
Skills in planning, program administration, budgeting, negotiation and persuasion. Skills in motivating and communicating with a variety of personnel; in leadership, executive management, program planning and implementation, negotiation and mediation, and data collection and analysis.
