The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Public Health and Safety Division in Helena.
As a Bureau Chief within the Public Health and Safety Division (PHS), you will report directly to the PHS Division Administrator and lead a team of proximately 13 FTE through subordinate section supervisors, managers, and direct supervision.
The position provides leadership, direction, and coordination for public health service programs dedicated to protecting and improving the health and safety of Montanans. Responsibilities include overseeing bureau personnel and ensuring the effective utilization of human resources in compliance with applicable employment laws, state policies, and collective bargaining agreements. The position also manages the Bureau’s policies, administrative systems, and resources to optimize funding and staffing, promote operational efficiency, ensure compliance with state requirements, and maintain uninterrupted program operations. In addition, the position establishes guidance and direction for division processes, standards, and governance to support consistent, effective, and accountable program administration.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity
Extensive knowledge of public health practice and administration, including disease prevention and control.
Skill in program and system evaluation.
Knowledge and skills in strategic planning and performance improvement.
Skill in writing technical reports or grants.
Meet minimum qualifications:
Master’s degree in public health or a master’s degree in health science-related field, or in public administration, or in a related field with coursework, training, and/or experience in public health.
Five or more years of job-related experience in public health or related areas, including two years of management and supervisory experience.
Alternate methods of obtaining necessary qualifications include a Bachelor of Science degree in a related medical, scientific field, or public administration with seven years of progressively responsible and related public health experience, including at least two years of management or supervisory experience.
