The Montana Department of Transportation is recruiting for an Asset Management Section Supervisor. We are seeking a collaborative, forward‑thinking leader to serve as the Asset Management Section Supervisor. This position leads the statewide Transportation Asset Management System (TAMS) program and plays a key role in shaping how MDT collects, integrates, manages, and uses asset data to drive strategic, performance‑based transportation investment decisions. The role is highly visible within the agency, regularly coordinating with internal divisions, districts, leadership, and external partners such as FHWA, AASHTO, and other DOTs.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, computer science, data science, engineering, mathematics, or a related field.

  • Requires a minimum of 4 years of experience in a data related field, engineering, asset management, information system management, project management, or related field.

  • This position requires a minimum of 1 year of supervisory or team lead experience. 

  • Combinations of additional related work experience and education may be considered on a case-by-case basis. 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of enterprise asset management principles, data governance, and systems integration across multiple technical domains.
  • Knowledge of business management, public administration, strategic planning, budgeting, and workforce management.
  • Knowledge of data warehouse architecture, relational and dimensional database structures, and business intelligence tools.
  • Knowledge of State personnel rules and how to interpret and apply them in daily supervisory activities.
  • Knowledge of contract administration principles and procurement processes for technology and professional services.
  • Skill in project management, business analysis, and planning/organizing the work of a technically diverse team.
  • Skill in communication, facilitation, and negotiation with internal and external stakeholders including FHWA, AASHTO, and local agencies.
  • Skill in developing and monitoring budgets, KPIs, and performance dashboards.
  • Ability to translate complex technical data concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences, including legislators and the public.
  • Ability to lead organizational change and build consensus among staff and stakeholders with differing priorities.
