The Montana Department of Transportation is recruiting an Administrative Assistant to support the Lewistown Division office. Responsibilities involve customer service and communications, including front desk receptionist and Adopt-A-Highway coordinator. The position also provides a range of responsibilities involving accounts payable, procurement card transactions, and accounts receivable. Duties also include payroll/personnel and radio dispatch as needed. The general working hours for this position are 7:30 – 4:30pm or 8:00am – 4:30pm. The position generally covers MDT's core public hours. The position reports directly to the Area Administrative Assistant in Lewistown as well as the District Financial Officer in Billings and does not directly supervise other agency personnel. This position is part of a career ladder with career advancement opportunities.
*This position requires strong customer service skills. Incumbent is the first in line for all customer services within the office including both internal customers (employees) and external customers (the public).

Required Education and Experience:
- The required knowledge and skills are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) to two (2) years of customer service-related training, business or office management, accounting, or communications experience.
Alternative qualifications include: Any combination of additional related work experience and education equivalent to the minimum qualifications.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- This position requires knowledge of office management, business communications, bookkeeping, records management, customer service standards, bookkeeping and accounting practices and procedures along with an extensive knowledge of SABHRS (Statewide Accounting, Budgeting and Human Resource System) This position is also expected to develop a progressively responsible knowledge of MDT policies and procedures, emergency response protocols, and specialized database and reporting systems (e.g., road reporting, Adopt-a-Highway, etc.).
- This position requires skill in coordinating multiple projects under inflexible deadlines; translating technical information to varied audiences; identifying and resolving accounting discrepancies and database errors; operating standard office software applications (e.g., word processing, database, etc.); responding to emergency situations; and written and verbal communications.
